192. Planning for Jun 15-20 2013 8 pax and 6 pax requirements

to judy, me, Raymond, Geoffrey
Hi,

My group of friends and I will be heading from Singapore to Myanmar from 15 June 2013 to 20 June 2013.
We have a total of 8 pax, with 2 pax leaving on 18 June 2013.

We have only booked our plane tickets and Yangon hotel so far and would like to engage your agency to help us with the logistics, tours and other accommodation.

Currently, we were looking at the following arrangement:
1st day (15/6) - Arrival / tour Yangon
2nd day (16/6) - Stay and tour at Yangon
3rd day (17/6) - Travel to Inle Lake
4th day (18/6) - Stay at Inle Lake
5th day (19/6) - Fly back to Yangon
6th day (20/6) - Flying back to Singapore

Questions:
1) Could you arrange for the logistics for the trip? Example:
- Domestic flights for Yangon - Inle Lake and Inle Lake - Yangon
- Travelling within Yangon (mini-vans)
- Travelling within Inle

2) Could you recommend and help us book the hotel at Inle Lake?
Inle Lake 2 nights (17 and 18 June)

3) Is there a personal tour guide (English-speaking) that we can hire for the trip?

Appreciate your prompt response. Thanks!

Regards,

Hi

Thank you for your email. I am in Paris but will be back to Singapore on May 7. Just got your email.  I am able to do the necessary domestic flights, travel guide and transport and hotel arrangements.

To save time, please specific exactly the dates and what services you need so that it is much easier for me to quote and there will be no misunderstanding.

For example, how many bedrooms required for Inle Lake hotel, domestic airline tickets for adults or children, visas to be done by you early, 3-star hotel ok with you, English-speaking guide in Yangon and Inle Lake, mini-van, boat ride for how many people on each particular day?

Once I have a detailed itinerary of what you want on each day with regards to no. of persons, no. of rooms (single bed, double), adults or children (age needed) domestic airlines, I will be able to quote. Pl note payment will be in US$ and in full before any booking can be done.  Pl email the details early.

Best is to sms me at 9668 6468 or phone me for follow up.

Hi, David,
Kindly refer to below. I would like to have 1 - 2 days free and easy in Yangon.
1. Dates of travel (how many days in June 2013?) -- You may have to advise me how I can cover most of the beautiful places? I intend to setoff from Singapore on 10 June and coming back on 16 June (Sunday)
2. Places you like to visit - Please suggest. Yangon, golden rock, mandalay, Inle lake, etc.
3. Quality of hotel. 3-stars are advised. - I am okay as long as hygiene is acceptable as worst thing to happen in joining tour is to fall sick.

Hi
Thank you for your email. I am David Sing helping Judy.
Please let me know more details to give you a quotation.
1. Dates of travel (how many days in June 2013?) -- You may have to advise me how I can cover most of the beautiful places? I intend to setoff from Singapore on 10 June and coming back on 16 June (Sunday)

Packaged tour in Yangon for 3 days/2 nights is being planned. Singaporeans are still used to cheap tours but Myanmar tours cannot compete in pricing for Thailand tours and so there is no great demand from Singaporeans to date.

Pl provide specific dates and other info early as demand for hotels is very high but shortfall in rooms, owing to great boom in international tourism since the US and Europe starting removing sanctions.

Best wishes.

190. Suggestion: Fewer temples and pagodas - more culture, flowers and sunset for Singaporeans

From David Sing:
April 23, 2013

Some thoughts from me as regards your trip. Pagodas and temples can be overwhelming to many Singaporeans as they see one, they have seen all! Yet, in a European tour, the Singaporeans see various churches too but they have histories and stories.

Do some research first as to sight-seeing.

Basically Inle Lake will be good for trekking and boat ride to appreciate village life and photography. 3 days 2 nights will be better if you like the scenaries and the culture. Local market shopping in Pyin Oo Lwin (garrison town, Governor's House and "Botanic Gardens") will suit you. So, spend one night there after Mandalay. Not many days left and so I don't suggest a rushed tour.

See www.designtravelpl.com webpages for more info or just surf the internet. Best wishes.

Hi David,

Nice to know that. We have booked our flight in August 3rd-11th.

I am thinking spending two days each in each town (not sure as i haven't really look at what is interesting in each town). We will be interested to visit some temples (but i don't want the whole trip is on temples-only on selected and famous temples) and definitely not very interested in all the work shop and hard ware workshop etc. we don't mind some shopping in local markets, definitely like scenery (sunset etc) and i am looking at the Itinerary on the website and would defnintely luv some trekking, river boating etc in lake inle. I am thinking maybe we only need tour in other towns but maybe not in Yangon. I haven't finalised. Give me your thoughts.

3rd August: 9.10am and arrive 10.40 am. Overnight in Yangon

4 and 5th: Bagan

6th and 7th : Mandalay

8th and 9th: Inle

10th: Back to Yangon

11th August : 11.15 departure

We don't mind a 3 star hotels because we on budget.

Thank you.

Cheers,
Jocelyn

Dear Shirley

1.  Full payment has been made by client. Please book the hotels and domestic airlines immediately with full payment to be made. This is to prevent "no booking" had been made problems when the clients arrive in the hotels. Demand is so high that some hotel operators may "cancel" bookings not fully paid when the clients arrive.

Hi
From the feedback from my Myanmar agent, there was no plane for your scheduled morning flight but all 4 of you had been given the seats on the evening flight. The agent wishes me to inform you that it is not her fault in not booking the flights as alleged by the Heho Airport officers.

Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused and I hope the children had a most memorable holiday in Myanmar. .

Hi David
It has taken me a few days as I have been busy with the kids who are still on holiday but here is a little report on our trip.

Yangon

The guide Soo and the driver were excellent. Picked us up at the airport and dropped us at the hotel to have lunch and relax before picking us up at 4.30pm for some sightseeing in central Yangon including the Shwedagon Pagoda.  Fantastic place to see.

They dropped us back to the hotel and picked us up in good time for the early flight to Bagan the next day.

Savoy Hotel in Yangon
This is a lovely hotel and we would highly recommend it to  anyone staying in Yangon.

Bagan

The guide in Bagan was Mister Jo and the driver Mr Zar.  Mister Jo was absolutely excellent – highly recommended. He spoke good English was very knowledgeable and interesting. Mr Zar was very professional and courteous and often offered a cold water and wipe at just the right time.
Bagan itself is amazing and we enjoyed all the suggested activities, the horse cart  trip , the boat on the Aye Yar Wady and the sunset viewings. Breath taking really. All lunch suggestions were excellent too. Thoroughly well organised.

Tharabar Gate Hotel in Bagan
A good hotel lovely atmosphere, style and staff and great location.  They were  having trouble with their pool and it was closed for 2 of the 3 days and was an unappetizing lurid green colour but apart from that the stay was excellent

Lake Inle
Another place well worth a visit . Our guide and boatmen were also very good. The guide was fun with a good sense of humour and really made an effort with the kids.  Arrangements were very good – nice lunch suggestions and on the trek our guide cooked for us himself a delicious chicken noodle soup. We were very impressed.

The craft visits were interesting – the afternoon trip to the Shwe Inn Thein Paya was an absolute highlight.  Nice boat trip and great sightseeing.
The trek was very enjoyable – our kids complained a bit and we had to cut it a bit shorter than we would have liked but the guide coped well with this.

Golden Island Cottages(1) (Nampan)
A lovely hotel situated right on the lake with all buildings on stilts. Lovely people. Every other night they put on a cultural show which is fantastic and we really enjoyed it. Beautiful place.

Trip back to Yangon

As you know there was a problem with our trip back to Yangon which resulted in us spending 8 hours at Heho Airport. – not sure how this occurred but never mind.  We had many apologies and it was nice that even though we had missed out on our Yangon sightseeing on our return we were offered an earlier pick up so that we could at least see the Chaukhtatgyi reclining Buddha and we really appreciated this.

So overall we were very impressed  and happy and we would happily recommend you and Great Expeditions travel to other clients.

Please could you pass this on to G... in Yangon with our sincere thanks
All the best
Mary

Hi
Please review the quotation below and let me know any changes to be made.

As for specific places you would like your children to visit, based on the book they read, please let me know early as I have not read that book. I did read about a book written by a British woman who published the life and work of her parents' missionary work to Myanmar. The itinerary would then include those places so that they will have fond memories of the trip with their parents.
